Pennine Yorkshire and Further Afield

Calderdale is located in Pennine Yorkshire, an area which is vibrant, contemporary and exciting in ways that will surprise you. History and innovation march hand in hand. This is where you can find prehistoric rock art in the morning and Hockney in the afternoon. This is where the trumpet player in the silver band on Saturday turns out for the Ska band on Sunday. Stone-built weavers' inns high up on the hillsides are award-winnning restaurants. Packhorse trails are mountain bikers' habitat and walking shoes, not clogs, tread the footpaths. Canal boats, once used to carry coal, convey groups of friends on holiday together. Fustian manufacture has given way to designer fabric, on sale in renovated mills.

Pennine Yorkshire - let your imagination roam. For more information, visit the Pennine Yorkshire website.

The vibrant, cosmopolitan cities of Leeds, York and Manchester are all easily accessible from Calderdale. Visit York Minster and the National Railway Museum in York or the Science Museum or Lowry in Manchester. Closer to Calderdale the Royal Amouries, Leeds; National Media Museum, Bradford, or the National Coal Mining Museum for England provide other options for a great day out.  If heritage and culture appeal, then visit Haworth, the home of the Brontë's, sample the Brontë Trail in Dewsbury, or delight in the National Trust at Marsden Moor.
